Principal's Message
Dear St Monica's families and friends,
Mother’s Day Celebrations
As we journey through May—the Month of Mary—we pause to give thanks for the remarkable women in our lives. Just as Mary responded to God’s call with courage, faith, and love, so too do the mothers, grandmothers, and women among us shape the lives of others with quiet strength and deep compassion.
To the mums who love unconditionally, the grandmothers who offer wisdom and warmth, and the women—whether family, friends, carers, or teachers—who give of themselves daily, we say: thank you. You reflect the love of God in all you do. Your patience, resilience, and quiet sacrifices shape hearts and inspire generations.
Last Friday we honoured all women who give with open hearts, who listen with compassion, and who lead with grace.

Pope Leo XIV - What do these 7 boys have in common? They share the name of a very significant person in the Catholic Church now... Pope Leo XIV! This is also of great significance to the St Monica’s community, as Pope Leo XIV is from the Order of St Augustine (OSA) and... St Augustine is the son of St Monica!

Last night we held our Open Council Meeting for 2025. It was well attended with many new faces on-site and on-line. Ellie Little (Fete Treasurer and Parent Representative on Council) publicly thanked the Fete Committee for their service, contribution, time and passion to ensure this was a successful event for our community. Special recognition was given to Kirralea Thompson and Kim Todd for their magnificent coordination of the fete over the past 3 years. We are thrilled to announce the 2025 St Monica’s Fete raised $47,035.11 with these funds going towards class sets of novels for our 3 – 6 classes and Decodable Readers for our K – 2 classes.
At the meeting, there was an open discussion about how the school community can support Wendy Regan (Canteen Manager), to keep this amazing service open. Some fabulous ideas were put forward at the meeting and via correspondence to the council email. The council is looking to put together a Working Group where we will take all ideas and suggestions to Wendy and discuss an ideal pathway moving forward that will suit Wendy and offer more reliable assistance in the canteen.
New Zealand visitors - Yesterday we welcomed visitors from New Zealand Catholic Schools. Our visitors were so impressed and blown away by the quality teaching and learning that is happening at our school. Huge thanks to all of our teachers and students who opened up and welcomed the visitors into their classrooms.
Matilda Kelly Catholic Education Commissioning Ceremony - Congratulations to Matilda Kelly who was officially commissioned into her teaching role at a beautiful Mass at St Christopher’s Cathedral last Thursday evening!

Sausage Sizzle and Bake Sale Fundraiser for St Edmunds - Huge shout out to the St Monica’s community for their contributions to and support for the St Eddie’s sausage sizzle and bake sale on Tuesday. Thank you to staff and the many families who baked items to sell, and to our parent helpers for cooking sausages and assisting the Year 6 students to sell the sweets and goodies. Special thanks to Melinda Brown for her coordination of this event. There is still time to buy a raffle ticket for a chance to win a family pass to the Raiders v Titans game this weekend. All funds raised from this event will be going to the St Edmund’s Trust fund to assist with the recovery of Aaron and Aiden who were injured in an accident outside their school last term.

Open Day and Enrolment Period - Last week we held our Open Week 2025! We are so proud of our Year 6 leaders who confidently toured prospective families around the school. Missed out on a tour? No worries, give the Front Office a call on 62585105 and book your visit in!
